Breast lifts typically take between one and three hours to perform and are usually carried out as an out-patient – so you don’t normally have to stay overnight in the hospital.

During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss with you the exact technique for your surgery as there are a number of ways to do it.

To summarize, loose skin will be removed from the breast area; the incisions through which this is done may be made:

• Around the coloured part of the nipple (the areola); or
• Underneath the breast in the crease where it joins the chest wall.

You will feel sore and stiff after the surgery, but this will start to diminish after a few days.

You should be careful not to overstretch and refrain from lifting.

You may feel up to going back to work after a week, provided you have a sedentary job.

Over the next few weeks, you will gradually get better; by around six weeks, you should be able to engage in more vigorous activities and sports.
