Fillers are also injection treatments used to enhance the lips. They may be comprised of synthetic or natural biocompatible ingredients and brand names such as Restylane® or Juvederm® are popular. Although results are immediately noticeable, they are temporary, and repeat injections are required to maintain the desired result.

Surgical options for lip enhancement include:

• Lip Lift: To increase the upper lip an incision is made under the nose and the skin shortened by pulling it up slightly. Downward turning mouths can also be corrected by surgery by making small incisions to the side of the mouth and removing the extra skin.
• Lip Implant: Synthetic or natural implants are inserted through incisions in the corner of the mouth.
• Dermal Graft: Incisions are made inside the mouth and a fat-graft is taken from deeper layers of the skin positioned under the lip lining.
• Vermillion Advancement: An incision is made around the coloured part of the lips and a strip of skin removed. The coloured section is pulled and stitched to the remaining skin, increasing the lip size. Scars are hidden under the lip line.

This all depends on what procedure you are having carried out. Some injection treatments have minimal downtime and can be completed over lunchtime. Surgery will take a little longer, but most people will be able to fly home and return to work in a few days following the procedure. 

It is advisable that you get any sightseeing in Bangkok out of the way before any cosmetic surgery, although light activities are an option after a few day's rest following lip augmentation.
