As with most cosmetic surgeries, surgeons use an array of different techniques to achieve the desired result. There are actually two procedures you will need to undergo to complete your Brazilian butt lift:

1. The first involves the removal of fat from the donor site of your body, which will then be processed and purified
2. The second step is to inject the fat into your buttocks after anaesthesia has been administered

The fat is removed by liposuction from the donor site, which may be the stomach, thighs or back (which also makes this area look more attractive too). The extracted fat is purified by centrifugation and is injected into the buttocks with special cannulas.

You will have little incision marks at the donor site, as well as the buttocks, but they will be in inconspicuous areas that can be covered with clothes, and they will fade over time to be virtually unnoticeable.

The procedure usually takes several hours, but it can be more or less, depending on how much fat is required.

After surgery:

• You will be bandaged and perhaps have to wear a compression garment, which is tight and helps with swelling to speed recovery.
• Some surgeons insert drainage tubes to draw fluid away from the site, but not all do.
• For the first few days you will feel sore and stiff.
• To relieve pressure on the buttocks, you will need to avoid sitting, so lying on your stomach is the best way to do this.
• When leaving the hospital, you will need pillows to sit on in the car, and you may have to use a pillow for a couple of months when you sit, until you have healed and the swelling has died down.
• You should be able to return to work in a few weeks but strenuous exercise should be avoided for six weeks.
• It may take up to six months before you have healed completely.
