Dr. I. Octavio Jimenez Meza graduated from the National Polytechnic Institute School of Medicine. He is highly skilled and experienced in general surgery, advanced laparoscopic, and bariatric surgery. He is certified by, and a member of the Mexican College of Surgery for Obesity and Diseases Metabolic (CMCOEM) for Bariatric Surgery. He is certified by the Mexican Association of Endoscopic Surgery (ECFA) for Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery. Dr. Meza taught as a professor of anatomy and physiology at HGR IMSS hospital, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He also has published works on “Complications of post-ERCP pancreatitis”, “Revision surgery in a training center for bariatric surgery”, and “Metabolic Surgery: Derivation Duodenum-ileal vertical sleeve gastrectomy laparoscopically.”
Services at Metabolic Health include:
- Lap Band, which uses a silicone ring, inserted laparoscopically through small incisions, and placed around the stomach slightly below where your esophagus and stomach meet. This creates a small stomach pouch, and allows you to feel fuller, faster. This is the only gastric surgery that is considered reversible, as it does not cut or remove any of your stomach or intestines.
- Gastric Sleeve is also usually done laparoscopically, and creates a “sleeve stomach” by removing a large portion of your stomach. With this technique, the portion of your stomach that is removed is the part that produces the hunger hormone Ghrelin – so you will be less hungry. There is no interruption of your digestive tract, only removal of a portion of the stomach.
- Gastric Bypass separates a pouch of the stomach at the base of the esophagus, and attaches it to the small intestine. This small pouch, that bypasses the food absorption areas in the stomach and small intestine, helps patients feel fuller, faster, and reduces absorption of calories.
