How Does Juvederm Work?

The active ingredient in Juvederm, hyaluronic acid, is found in many areas in the human body–your skin, eyes, and joints. It is a lubricant and moisturizer, retaining more than 1,000 times its weight in water. Infants and young people have a high concentration of HA but as we get older our bodies produce less of it, especially over the age of 40. Our skin is naturally plumped up with this super moisturizer, and once it starts to diminish, facial lines and wrinkles start to appear. Injections take between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on the areas being treated. A local anesthetic is usually administered to make the experience more comfortable and the Juvederm is injected into the skin using a fine needle.

You may experience some temporary side effects for a couple of days, including swelling, redness, and tenderness, but you will be able to return to your normal activities straight after your treatment. You can even put make-up on right away if you want to cover the redness.
