The majority of lip enhancement procedures are certainly something you can have quickly and easily in Mexico as many of them are non-surgical, although surgery is always an option if you have more time.

If you’d like to dip a toe in the water, so to speak, of trying cosmetic procedures abroad, but don’t want to take the full surgery plunge, then lip enhancements are a good place to start. Lip enhancement procedures can generally be divided into surgical and non-surgical treatments, and it is possible to have a combination to achieve the desired result.

They can also be permanent or temporary, and this is something you should consider carefully before you decide to go ahead, especially with permanent treatments, which are very difficult to reverse if you are not happy with the results.

Injection treatments:

Injections used for facial fillers can sometimes be used for lip enhancements.

Restylane® and Juvederm® are two of the most popular brands; they can be injected in a matter of moments, provide instant results and last for around three months, after which you can have the procedure repeated.

Autologous Fat Transfer:

This is where fat removed from one part of your body is re-injected into the lips (after it has been processed and cleansed). This is usually performed if you are having liposuction on another part of your body, and, in this case, would require two procedures – the initial liposuction and the injection into your lips.

Surgery:

Surgery is a permanent solution and includes:

• Dermal grafts, whereby incisions are made inside the mouth to place fat-grafts taken from deeper skin layers.
• Lip implants, whereby incisions are made in the corners of the mouth to insert synthetic or natural implants.
• Lip lifts - this pulls the top lift upwards by making an incision under the nose, removing excess skin and pulling the remaining skin upwards and stitching in place. A similar procedure can correct a downward-turning mouth, but by making small incisions at corners of the mouth.

This really depends on what procedure you have done. Surgery obviously has a longer downtime than the injection procedures, but still only a couple of days before you feel better, and maybe another few for any swelling and bruising to subside.

Injections with fillers have virtually no downtime – apart from a little stinging, redness and swelling for a few hours – but most people find these aren’t severe enough to stop them carrying on with their normal activities.

Lip enhancement in Mexico is generally much less expensive than in the United States, but it depends on what procedure you decide to have done.

As an example, a lip lift in Mexico can be as little as $1,000, compared to between $3,000 – 4,0000 in the United States.
