You may be administered local anesthesia (only the area affected will be numb), intravenous (IV) sedation (you’ll be extremely relaxed), or general anesthesia (you’ll be asleep).

The surgeon will then make a small incision and infuse medications into the area to reduce pain and ease the process. Using a cannula (thin hollow tube) that is attached to a vacuum, the surgeon will then move it back and forth, suctioning dislodged fat from the area.
