The Ultimate Guide to Rhinoplasty in Antalya

Ultimate Guide to Rhinoplasty in Antalya

Last fact-checked: 25 November 2021

Been thinking about altering the size, shape or trajectory of your nose but can't afford the high costs at home for this elective surgery? Then rhinoplasty in Antalya is a safe and affordable alternative option—with the added benefit of being able to enjoy a beach break on the stunning Turkish Riviera.

Discover how you can get a nose job for less—without having to take undue risks—with help from Medical Departures.

What Is Rhinoplasty for?

Rhinoplasty is sought by both men and women for a variety of reasons; in essence, this tailor-made procedure is used by surgeons to alter the size, shape and/or trajectory of your nose

This is achieved by manipulating the structure of the nose via small incisions, be that the hard bone at the bridge, the softer cartilage at the lower dorsum nasi (length of the nose), the soft tissue and skin around the nostrils—or a combination of these—to produce the desired aesthetic result.

Common cosmetic reasons why patients seek rhinoplasty treatment are that they perceive their nose to be:

  • Too large (more common in the West)

  • Too small (more common in Asian countries)

  • Misaligned or crooked

  • Upturned

  • Aquiline (prominent bridge)

  • Hooked, particularly at the apex (tip)

  • Overly pronounced, often due to a protruding bridge

Who Is Rhinoplasty for?

You may be suitable for a nose job if:

  • Your face and nose have reached adult growth.

  • You are in good physical health (key to a positive result of the surgery; reduces risks and complications).

  • You don’t smoke (or at least, you quit for several months before and after surgery); smoking makes healing more difficult for your body, and the risk of infections is much higher than for those who don't smoke.

  • You generally feel good about your appearance and have realistic expectations of the surgical results, but want to improve the shape of your nose.

Unsure about your suitability? If you have an underlying health condition, ask your GP for an opinion or reach out to a member of our Customer Care Team; Medical Departures can put you in touch with rhinoplasty experts around the world who can provide a preliminary online assessment before you fly.

What Does the Procedure Entail?

Nose jobs are as unique as each individual undergoing treatment; however, the general rhinoplasty steps are the same whether you are receiving treatment in Turkey, the UK, the US or anywhere else in the world.

Each step is outlined in brief below:

Step 1. Anaesthesia

First, it should be noted that a nose job can be performed under local anaesthesia with IV sedation, or general anaesthesia. Usually taking between one and two hours, it is most commonly performed on an outpatient basis at an accredited surgical facility, meaning that patients leave the same day after a few hours of monitoring.

In some cases, especially for those with pre-existing medical conditions that may complicate the administration of general anaesthesia, patients may require an overnight stay in hospital for further monitoring. Ultimately, your doctor will be able to recommend the best choice for you.

Step 2. Incision(s)

Once the anesthesia has taken effect, surgery can begin. Nose job procedures use either:

  • A small incision made across the columella, the strip of tissue separating the nostrils (open procedure); or

  • Incisions that are hidden inside the nose (closed procedure)

The skin covering the cartilage and nasal bone can then be carefully raised via these small incisions, allowing the surgeon to reshape the structure of the nose as described below in step 3.

Step 3. Structural Reshaping

In cases where a patient is seeking a nose reduction, bone and/or cartilage may be removed.

For the opposite effect, cartilage grafts can be inserted into the nose via a small incision to add length or bolster its structure. Grafts from the septum may be used for this purpose, as well as cartilage harvested from the ear.

Step 4. Correction of a Deviated Septum (Optional)

In cases where a patient has a deviated septum, this can be straightened via the same incisions, with breathing improved by reducing any projections inside the nose.

Step 5. Closing the Incision(s)

Once the desired shape and angle of the nose has been achieved through surgical restructuring, the opened flaps of skin and tissue are redraped and the incisions are sutured closed to complete the procedure. The nose may also be supported with splints and then bandaged to provide protection.

What Are the Risks?

As with any plastic surgery, nose jobs do carry a certain degree of risk, and it is important to be aware of potential but rare rhinoplasty side effects, safety considerations and complications, which include:

  • Changes in skin sensation or discolouration

  • Undesirable scarring

  • Anaesthesia risks

  • Difficulty in breathing

  • Swelling

  • Unsatisfactory appearance

  • Infection

  • Slow wound healing or scarring

Post-Surgery Recovery

Take note of these considerations after undergoing rhinoplasty in Antalya:

  • The bruising and swelling may vary depending on the exact nature of your procedure, but it could be a couple of weeks before it has settled down enough for you to return to work.

  • After surgery, your nose is likely to be bandaged, but you may also have splints and your nose may be packed with gauze (which should remain in place for 7–10 days.

  • Most patients return home after 3–5 days.

  • You will want to be doubly careful for a few weeks that you don’t bang your nose

  • You will be advised not to do any exercise for three weeks, and even then to take it gently.

  • Over the next few weeks, your nose will begin to feel stronger and after six weeks you should be able to resume normal activities and vigorous exercise.

Quality of Medical Facilities in Turkey and Antalya

Alongside the likes of Poland, Hungary and Spain, Turkey accounts for a large proportion of Europe's medical tourism market, with medical experts here specialising in plastic surgeries (like rhinoplasty and tummy tucks), as well as innovative hair transplant treatments.

Every year, a growing number of Brits and other Europeans plan their medical travel around a holiday to Turkey, with destinations like Antalya and Istanbul relatively quick and cheap to reach from most major regional capitals, including London, Berlin, Paris, Zurich and Dublin.

While low plastic surgery costs have been the greatest influence in attracting medical travellers, Western accreditation is also a vital component for foreign patients coming to Antalya. Turkey’s private clinics and hospitals, of which there are over 1,000, are among the best in both Europe and Asia, working with specialists who are members of domestic and international boards, such as the International Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS)

Many of Turkey’s hospitals and clinics are recipients of the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, seen as the gold standard for healthcare service providers around the world.

The Medical Departures team also carries out independent quality checks, confirming doctors' qualifications and licenses, as well as procedures adopted by the clinic toward safety and hygiene. After all, just because the overall standard in the country is high, it doesn’t mean that all medical centres are up to scratch.

Authenticated patients’ reviews, online verifications and legal records are also important as they play a part in our quality checks. This is usually carried out to make sure our patients are safe and get the finest services.

Other advantages of booking with us include:

  • No upfront charges when you book (pay at the clinic)

  • Free to cancel any time up to 24 hours before your appointment

  • Free access to hundreds of clinics in the region, with transparent price lists and no-obligation quotes provided by our team

  • Our Best Price Guarantee

  • Free 24-hour customer support

Hugely impressed by this hospital. I had a quite tumour removed from my back and the treatment and care was world class. I was / am here on my own and far from home and it was the first time I've had a general anaesthetic, so i was quite apprehensive. There was no need. This is an excellent, diligent hospital with outstanding surgeons (Dr Apichart), anaethetist and nurses throughout the building. I couldnt have asked for a kinder, more comfortable and professional environment. Really recommended.
