Also known as a gluteoplasty, this surgery removes sagging skin to restore the shape of the buttocks. It may also be combined with liposuction to remove excess fat.

It should be noted that this procedure is not the same as the Brazilian butt lift, which increases volume, either with fat injections from elsewhere on your body or with implants.

Depending on how much skin is to be removed, the procedure typically takes around two hours.

There are a number of techniques your surgeon may use, but typically:

• Incisions will be made at the top of the buttocks, groin, hips or under the buttock cheeks where the excess skin will be removed.
• Liposuction may also be used.
• The remaining skin will be pulled tight and stitched closed.
• You may have drains inserted to remove excess fluid and a compression garment to help reduce swelling.

The butt lift procedure will require two or three weeks of recovery time before you can engage in your everyday activities, but it will take a number of months before you are fully healed.
